May 5th, 2013 - "Dancing in a Mirage"

I knew I wanted to implement loops today...
What are loops, you ask? Well, in this modern musical world we live in nowadays pretty much every music recording program comes with a bunch of short pre-written material that is usually in certain formats that lend themselves to being looped/repeated. I used several different percussion loops and one sound effect loop in this recording. I recorded all of the guitars (there are 7 tracks of different guitar parts).

Workflow is a bit different for me with loops. I actually listen to a bunch of them until I get inspired by one. Then the project begins. I start hearing in my head what I think should go next and try to find it/create it. I create, what I call, a sonic “backdrop”. I actually structure the piece and then it’s about layering, putting the different sections in one at a time. Sometimes I hear something that needs to be in the end (like today) and then work backwards through the song. I cannot divine which way my inspiration will work from one day to the next. I just follow it. As Lena will attest to, there is a lot of consideration and patience in creating the right melody with the right sound…at the right time. She listens to me play some of this stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over…well, you get it.

I had a BLAST making this piece! I am very curious to hear your feedback so please let me know if you’re enjoying this kind of artistic output from yours truly.

Let’s review the rules again:
1. Yes. 2 minutes long
2. Yes. Recorded 7 tracks of guitar parts plus the 6 tracks of loop sections.
3. Yes. Recorded and Posted on 5/5/13

PS...Happy Cinco de Mayo!
PSS...Friendly reminder that if you like the tune, PLEASE BUY IT! It helps me know which tracks are liked, plus, you'll allow me to buy a guitar string or maybe 2 (I will build up to 6!!!)
