Adrian Goldenthal
Adrian Goldenthal (Bassist) - is a Phoenix native, son of local jazz pianist Joel Robin. He attended Arizona State University, where he obtained a B.S. in Psychology while dabbling in the Jazz department. There, he met long-time friend and fellow Calo Flamenco musician Kris Hill. When Calo Flamenco presented him with the opportunity to join in summer 2004, Adrian enthusiastically accepted. Adrian had met and recorded with Jácome a few years earlier, but had never had the chance to fully delve into flamenco. Adrian has played various styles and can also be seen performing with Briza Brazil, the funk/rock group Badshoe, and the experimental project Shh...The Baby's Sleeping.



Kris Hill
Kristofer Hill (Percussionist) - has been accompanying classes on piano & percussion and composing for modern dance performances at ASU for eight years. Some of his compositions for dance have been performed at the Joyce, Soho, NYU, and Virginia Piper Theater. Performance credits also include Gammage Auditorium, the Olympia Dome (WA) and Woodstock. Kris is also a member of some other local groups where he plays keyboards, guitar, and percussion: The Drunken Immortals, Africa Tam Tam, Shh! The Baby’s Sleeping, and Street Jam. Kris has also spent many years working with children in music and dance workshops and teaching guitar as well as doing habilitation with developmentally disabled children.



Olivia R.
Olivia Rojas (Singer) – from El Paso, Texas, began her career singing in various church groups and chorales and has studied flamenco cante with Chris Burton Jácome, Jorge “El Canastero”, Gaetano, and Marija Temo. Olivia currently performs with the Chris Burton Jácome Flamenco Ensemble and Calo Flamenco. She has also worked with Flamenco del Pueblo Viejo in Tucson and World’s Dance Mosaic presented by Alma Latina Dance. She studied flamenco dance under Yumi “La Rosa”, Molly Durán and Norma Molina.


The Dancers

Bernadette Gaxiola

Bernadette Gaxiola (flamenco dancer): Began her dance training at age of 6. She has studied with artists Laura Moya, Luis Montero, Oscar Nieto, Julia Lopez, La Meida, La Conja, Carola Zertuche, Yolanda Heredia, Isabel Bayón, and Antonio “El Pipa”, and continues to be inspired by her brother Martín Gaxiola. Company/Performance credits include Laura Moya Spanish Dance Co (AZ), Flamenco Ole/Antonio Granjero (PA), Ballet Etudes (AZ), 'Zona Flamenca (Scottsdale). She has performed throughout the United States including American Dance Festival (VA); Philadelphia's Fringe Festival and Feria de Abril (PA). She conducts her own adult/children's flamenco classes and is founder of the children's group, Gitanitos del Sol.




Martin Gaxiola

Martin Gaxiola (Flamenco Dancer) - Martin Gaxiola is the artistic director and founder of his own flamenco music and dance ensemble, CALO FLAMENCO, based in Phoenix, AZ. Martín began studying dance in 1992 and since then has studied flamenco extensively in Spain (Sevilla and Madrid) with such renowned artists as Antonio Granjero, Immaculada Ortega, Juana Amaya, Manolo Marín and in the U.S. with Dini Roman. He gained professional experience performing with such dance companies as Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco (NM), Flamenco Ole! (PA), Flamenco Y Más (AZ) and can be seen in two different PBS television specials: “Flamenco”, and “Flamenco: The Passion of Flamenco Dance”.

Martín has shared his flamenco artistry in dance classes and lecture demonstrations to children, students and adults across the U.S. and abroad. As a choreographer, he created several original works and full theatrical presentations for various dance companies and solo artists in the U.S.





Lena Jacome

Lena Jácome (Flamenco Dancer) - According to the REDLANDS DAILY FACTS "Lena Jácome danced with agility and quickness, hitting each "heel, heel, toe, stomp, heel" with perfection and grace. "Olé" could be heard throughout..."

Marielena Jácome was born in a small mining town in New Mexico. Discovering dance in her teens, she moved to Miami, Florida to attain her B.F.A. Degree in Dance Performance at New World School of the Arts. She then moved to Arizona and earned her M.F.A. Degree in Choreography and Performance at Arizona State University. She has been a dancer for Calo Flamenco under the direction of Martín Gaxiola since June of 2003. She has traveled throughout the U.S. with the Chris Burton Jácome Flamenco Ensemble and Calo Flamenco.

Lena has traveled to Spain to study under La Faraona and La Gallardí and trains regularly with the Calo Flamenco ensemble and Lourdes Rodriguez. Dancing is her passion. She can’t imagine a better way to express herself.
